Waymo Ojai now serves all riders in San Francisco, Phoenix and Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Waymo announced the wider access on August 19. The company says its newer ride-hailing vehicle is on the road in all three markets.
The update expands eligibility. It does not promise an Ojai for every request. Waymo still runs a mixed fleet. Additionally, its live FAQ says the company is starting to roll out the newer vehicle alongside Jaguar I-PACE cars. Riders may get an Ojai, but Waymo does not promise one for every trip.
From select riders to broader access
Waymo outlined this path in May. It said select riders in the same three markets could initially take free Ojai trips. The company wanted feedback first. It also said it planned to welcome more riders over time. Now, Waymo says all riders can use the vehicle in San Francisco, Phoenix and Los Angeles.
“The Ojai is officially on the road in SF, PHX, and LA for all riders.”
Waymo calls the Ojai a rider-first vehicle that runs its sixth-generation Waymo Driver. The company highlights a flat floor, large in-car screens and accessibility touches. However, those are Waymo’s product descriptions. They are not independent performance tests. This update marks a service-access milestone, not a full review of the vehicle.
What changes for riders
For people who use the Waymo app in the three markets, the change removes the select-rider limit from the first public Ojai trips. Still, normal rider rules and service-area limits apply. The announcement does not set a new price. It does not guarantee a specific vehicle on a route. It also does not expand Ojai access to additional cities.
The wider availability follows Waymo’s recent California expansion work. Tech My Money covered CPUC clearance for fared driverless rides in expanded California territory. Our earlier Ojai first-rider report tracked the limited rollout. As a result, the August announcement marks the next step for the same three-city Ojai program.
